LOW CALORIE CROQUE MADAME
Croque madame is a French hot sandwich with ham, cheese and an egg on top. The reason why this croque madame is healthier is because it’s lower in fat and higher in protein than the traditional one. The trick is to swap the traditional white bechamel sauce (which is mostly carbs and fat) to a low fat cottage cheese that is mostly protein! Trust me, once you try it, that will be your new way of making croque madame (or monsieur)!
Ingredients
- 70 g wheat sourdough bread (1 slice)
- 1 eggs
- 65 g ham, cooked
- 80 G cottage cheese, low fat
- 40 g shredded cheese
- nutmeg to taste
Instructions
- Cut your slice of bread in half
- On one piece, put 1 slice of ham , then half of the cottage cheese. This will be the bottom of the sandwich.
- On the other piece of bread, put the other half of the cottage cheese. This will be the top of the sandwich.
- Season with salt, pepper and nutmeg.
- Add shredded cheese on top of both piece of bread.
- Bake in the airfryer (or oven) at 200C for 10min , or until cheese is golden 😋 (do check on them regularly to make sure it doesn’t burn or get too dry!)
- In the meantime cook your sunny side up egg on a pan.
- Assemble your croque madame by adding half slice of ham in between both pieces of bread. Lastly add your egg on top of the sandwich. Serve with a simple salad and enjoy !
